Storybook illustration, Arts in Libraries St Helens

community partnership • character development • children’s literature • book development & design

It was my great privilege to be part of the St Helens Arts in Libraries Children’s Storybook Project. 5 local aspiring writers were linked with 5 local illustrators to collaborate and produce a 32 page fully illustrated children’s book. Each of the books are available to borrow from any library in St Helens.

The process involved working closely with the writer and the Arts team to design a picture book suitable for children of all ages. The story I was asked to illustrate was rich with culturally identity, history and heritage, and it was a unique challenge to do this justice, whilst also maintaining suitability for a young audience. The most enjoyable part of the process was working closely with my writer Eman Diab to compile visual research and character development.
